Travel advisories have been issued for Erie, Niagara and Genesee counties in response to Saturday’s ice storm.
Advisories for Niagara and Genesee are already in effect. Erie County’s will go into effect at 6 p.m. Saturday.
“This is a precautionary measure to help ensure public safety as a combination of ice, rain and wind threatens our region this weekend,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “We are urging residents to stay off the roads as much as possible during this wintry event, for their own protection and to minimize potential problems for the Public Works and Emergency Services personnel who will be working to keep us all safe through this weather event.”
Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans, and Wyoming Counties are under an Ice Storm Warning beginning at that began at 2 p.m. It will remain in effect until 2 p.m. Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service, significant icing up to a half inch and gusty winds are expected. That could cause significant damage to trees and power lines.
