Tis the season for deals and artificial holidays invented to sell them. Friday, November 23, 2018 will be Black Friday this year, Saturday, November 24, will be American Express’ favorite ‘holiday’, Small Business Saturday, and of course Monday, November 26 will be Cyber Monday for 2018. From mermaids in Florida to fun in the sun in the Dominican, here are some great Black Friday deals.
Hotels.com is making a game of it, with a Black Friday/ Cyber Monday electronic scratch-off mystery coupon. Starting at midnight on Friday 11/23 through Monday 11/26 at 11:59 p.m. anyone who visits Hotels.com gets a shot at 7%, 8%, 10% or, yes, 99% off hotel room bookings. (While everyone is “guaranteed” to win one of the four deals, prudently, Hotels.com has limited the maximum spending for 99% winners to $1,000.)
When you visit the Hotels.com website you’ll be prompted to scratch off a mystery coupon, which you will need to use to book your trip between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. You can use your savings on any of Hotels.com’s listings or splurge on a honeymoon or once in a lifetime vacation at an exotic spot like Keemala, Kamala, Thailand.
Not to be outdone, rival Priceline will roll out Express Deal coupons throughout the Black Friday weekend to email subscribers. Up to 50% in additional savings will be offered on hotel Express Deals, as well as savings on Express Deal flights and rental cars. And on Cyber Monday one thousand coupon codes for 99% off Express Deal hotels worldwide will be sent to email subscribers. Less lucky subscribers will be sent coupons with what Priceline calls “significant discounts .”
Hotwire, known for last-minute hotel and car rental deals, is making it a trio of OTA (online travel agency) Black Friday deals. Beginning Tuesday, Nov 20 through Black Friday, travelers can save on Hot Rate deals like $10 off $100 hotel bookings, $40 off $300 hotel bookings and $75 off $500 hotel bookings. Howtwire claims the deals means you could find a 5-star hotel for as low as $189 in Los Angeles.
Other travel vendors are offering an early jump on the “cyber holiday” savings. One is EF Ultimate Break (EFUB), which offers “Millennial-tailored travel experiences” for 18 to 29-year olds. EF is kicking off Black Friday starting November 16th. These “Doorbuster Deals” include what the company says are savings of up to 20% or $1200 on more than 65 destinations like Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
Interestingly, EF’s philosophy seems to be about making it easy for notoriously independent Millennials to travel together on tours with “like-minded travelers” in a “social group environment” where you can make new connections. So the EF Ultimate Break experience includes flights, accommodations, airport transfers, meals, the inevitable Instagram spots for posing, and even the help of a tour director. For example, EF is offering $1200 or 20% off the 30-day, 11-city (London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Florence) Grand Tour of Europe. It includes airfare, metro transfers, breakfast, and 28 nights in “hand-picked” accommodations. The list price for the trip departing June 5 from LAX was $5909.
EF also seems to be catering to often cash-strapped Millennials, allowing them to reserve a spot for $150 down. The company also offers interest-free payment options on trips.
Think you’ll need a relaxing Southern get-away sometime between now and December of 2019? B Hotels & Resorts is offering 50% off their hotels in New Orleans, Savannah, GA, Fort Lauderdale, the Florida Keys and the Disney World area over the Black Friday-Cyber Monday four-day weekend.
At the B Ocean Resort in Fort Lauderdale, you can eat at the hotel’s signature restaurant Naked Crab and catch Wreck Bar’s Mermaid Show—or late-night Aqua Burlesque Show. Book direct at http://www.bhotelsandresorts.com/ and use code BCYBER, starting at midnight November 23, 2018. The B on Canal in New Orleans offers a Jazz Brunch in Madam’s Modern Kitchen + Bar, with live entertainment and bottomless mimosas, while the streetcar outside the hotel will take you all the way to the mighty Mississippi.
If you’re looking for a sunny vacation with family in tow, Liberty Travel is offering a Black Friday deal to the Nickelodeon Hotel & Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The Liberty deal on the 4.5-star Nickelodeon includes savings of up to 71%, and perhaps just as important, two kids stay and eat free. The deal also can include a $100 Resort Credit per room per stay, 15% off spa services, and a true highlight, a free “sliming” for a family of four (yes, it’s that Nickelodeon.)
Liberty is also partnering with Norwegian Cruise Line to offer prospective cruisers up to 5 “free” offers for Black Friday. These can include specialty dining, shore excursions, onboard WiFi, “friends and family sail free” and even free airfare on over 100 cruises.
Other Liberty Travel Black Friday deals include discounts and credits on trips. For example, trips of in the $6,000-range receive a $300 discount; in the five-thousand-dollar category a $250 credit and those of $4,000 to $4,999 earn $200 off. Liberty is also offering an air credit of up to $100 per person to selected destinations.
