The thought of losing important travel documents is enough to make anyone break out into sweats.

Misplacing your passport at the airport will almost certainly mean you can’t fly.

But what happens if your boarding pass goes missing?

Here’s what airline staff and frequent flyers say.

A recent Quora thread asked: “What happens if you lose your boarding pass after you go through security at the airport?

“Will you be allowed to board your flight?”

And surprisingly, the situation doesn’t seem to be as daunting as you’d expect.

According to the majority of responders, it doesn’t matter if you lose this travel document.

HOLI-YAY: In many cases, new boarding passes can be printed (Pic: GETTY)

Frequent flyer Rajesh Kaushik revealed that his problem was resolved in a matter of minutes.

He wrote: “After clearing immigration and security, we were waiting for the boarding call when we realised that my wife had lost the boarding pass…

“We did not panic. Instead, just walked across to the hostess who was waiting to guide us into the aircraft after boarding commences, and informed her about our predicament.

“She immediately called for someone on her walkie talkie and the guy was there in a couple of minutes.

“He walked us to a computer, took my wife’s passport and keyed in the details.

“The new boarding passes were printed and also the new baggage tags were printed and handed over to us while wishing us a pleasant flight.”

Similar advice was issued by another frequent flyer.

They commented: “From my experience working with a leading international airline and a frequent traveller, its not a big deal.

“A lost boarding card is more usual than you may think and the common place to lose it is at the security check.

“It gets left behind or packed in carry on luggage or just picked up by another passenger or dropped off somewhere…

“If you ever lose your boarding card, then simply talk to the airline guy or the security officer confidently and ask for his help politely.

“It is an obligation for the airline to issue you a new boarding card as long as it wont cause major delay to the flight and you do not have any security issues.”

YOU SHALL NOT PASS: Some holidaymakers reported that they weren’t allowed to board flights (Pic: GETTY)

While dozens of Quora users agreed that printing new boarding passes wasn’t a problem, some recalled negative airport experiences.

One remarked: “It depends on the airline vastly.”

Another agreed: “It all depends on the airport, airline, security staff and you.

“Staff didn’t allow me as I reached the security counter 55 minutes before the flight.

“They were not able to reprint pass as their system didn’t allow them to print within one hour of flight departure time.”

Our advice is to keep your documents in a travel pouch, along with your passport.

It is also worth downloading your airline’s app on your phone.

This can provide you with paperless boarding passes if you end up losing the physical copy.

If you still end up losing your flight ticket, it’s best to speak to airport staff calmly.

They are then more likely to print another boarding pass or help you to rectify the situation.
